Description

A cat paper doll set with two articulated cats, drawn and coloured by hand on paper and then scanned: a charcoal grey cat with blue eyes and pink details, and a golden brown cat with green eyes and a blue flower pattern on the forehead. Print the sheet on card, cut out the parts, punch the marked holes and join them with small brads (split pins), and the head, arms, legs and tail of each cat turn at the joints. The photos show the real cats, assembled from these files and holding paws.

Two cat paper dolls that move, pose and play

Each cat is made of seven pieces: a head, a body, two arms, two legs and a tail. Five brads per cat hold them together, and the assembly guide shows where each one goes, so there is no guessing. Once joined, a cat can sit, wave, walk or hold paws with its friend; the second photo shows the same two cats in two different poses.

Both cats come from original drawings. Each one was drawn by hand on paper and coloured by hand, then scanned and prepared for printing, so the pencil lines and the hand-coloured texture are still there. The line art page is the same drawing without the colour: colour the cat paper doll yourself with pencils, markers or paint before you cut it out.

How to make it: print, cut, punch, join

• Print at 100% (Actual Size), not Fit to Page, in landscape, on white card stock.
• Cut along the outer edge of each piece with sharp scissors or a craft knife.
• Punch the marked joint points with a small hole punch or an awl.
• Join the pieces with the brads as shown in the assembly guide, five per cat. Add the brads, then play.

The guide is a separate PDF with the joint placement for both cats. If you colour the line art with wet media, test it on your paper first and let it dry before cutting.
