Description
This is our free no-sew doll dress pattern, and it comes with a matching wrap top. Both are made the same way: the front and the back are one piece that goes over the doll's shoulders. You cut it on the fold of the fabric, put it on over the doll's head, wrap the sides around the doll and tie the ties. There is nothing to sew and nothing to hem. The dolls, trousers, shoes and clothes in the photos are not included.
A no-sew doll dress pattern and a wrap top in one download
The top is short, with two ties on each side. You can tie it in a knot or a bow at the back, or wrap the ties around the waist and tie them at the front or at the side. The dress is midi length and wraps to the back. Hide the knot under the back part, tie a bow on top of it, or tie it at the front like the top. There is no single right way to tie them, so the same piece of fabric gives a few different looks.
Which dolls it fits
The no-sew doll dress pattern is one size for modern 11.5 in fashion dolls such as Barbie®. The top fits Regular, Curvy, Petite and Tall dolls. The dress fits Regular, Curvy and Tall dolls and can also be worn by Petite dolls. In the photos you can see the same top and dress on different body types. The instructions cover how to print and check the pattern, the lines on the pattern, how to glue the dress pattern and every step for the top and the dress with photos. The top and the no-sew doll dress pattern are on separate pages, so print only the page for the look you want to make. Each pattern page has a 1 cm and a 1 inch calibration square, so you can check the print with a ruler before you cut.
How to make the top and the dress
- Print the pattern at 100% (Actual size) and cut out the paper pattern. The dress pattern has two paper parts: glue or tape them together first.
- Fold the fabric in half, lay the pattern with the FOLD edge on the fold and cut along the red lines.
- Unfold it and put it on over the doll's head: the narrow back part goes down the doll's back, the wide front part is in front.
- Wrap the sides around the doll and tie the ties at the back, at the front or at the side.
The slits for the lower ties are optional. You can also cut the ties longer than on the pattern: long ties are easier to tie, and you can trim them at the end. For a floor-length gown, the instructions show how to lengthen the no-sew doll dress pattern.
What you need
- A small piece of fabric. Stretch fabric works best, but non-stretch fabric works too. Nothing is hemmed, so a fabric that does not fray is the easiest choice.
- Scissors
- Glue or adhesive tape to join the two paper parts of the dress pattern
- The printed and cut out paper pattern
Skill level: beginner. The no-sew doll dress pattern is easy enough for children, and a good first project before a pattern with seams.
Make it a doll maternity dress
Tie a narrow ribbon under the bust and the dress from this no-sew doll dress pattern becomes a simple maternity dress, like in our photo.
