Description
One of our basic doll dress sewing patterns for 11.5 in fashion dolls such as Barbie®: a fitted top with a gathered skirt, in a midi cocktail length and a long evening length. Each dress can be made with two different top styles, and there is also a version with straps. The pattern has separate pieces for Regular and Curvy dolls, so you get four dresses in one set. Dolls and fabrics in the photos are not included.

One doll dress sewing pattern, four dresses
- Cocktail dress: the fitted top with the skirt cut to midi length.
- Evening dress: the same top with the skirt cut to maxi length.
- Top No. 1 or Top No. 2: two bodice styles; No. 1 has an inner facing piece, No. 2 is cut from one piece.
- Straps: an optional version where the straps are sewn in between the top and its facing.
In every version of this doll dress sewing pattern the top is shaped with bust darts, so the dress sits close to the body, and the skirt is gathered onto it. The back closes with small hook-and-loop tape or snaps, and the lower back seam of the skirt is left open a little below the waist so the dress goes on and off easily. A line of topstitching along the waist seam is optional but keeps the seam flat.
Fits Regular and Curvy dolls
This doll dress sewing pattern was drafted and test-fitted on the Regular (original) and the Curvy body, and the two sets of pieces are included. A dress pattern for Curvy Barbie® dolls needs its own pieces, not a scaled-up Regular one: the hips are 2 cm wider and the waist 1.3 cm, while the bust is almost the same. Choose the sheet that matches your doll; if you are not sure which body she has, the Size Guide shows how to tell in a minute. Petite and Tall bodies are not covered by this pattern.
Skill level, fabric and supplies
- Skill level: beginner. A sewing machine helps but is not required; the seams are short enough to sew by hand.
- Seam allowance, about 3-4 mm, is included: cut on the red cut line, sew on the dashed seam line.
- Fabric: non-stretch woven fabric, such as light cotton. A stretchy fabric makes the dress come out bigger; if you use one, take the top edge in where the closure goes. If you like denim, choose a lightweight one to reduce bulk.
- You need: the printed pattern, fabric, thread, scissors and small hook-and-loop tape or snaps.
Printing
Print the doll dress sewing pattern at 100% (Actual Size), not Fit to Page, on A4 or US Letter paper, and check the 1 cm and 1 inch marks on the sheet before you cut. The SVG files hold the same pieces at real size for cutting machines and vector programs.
