Description
A doll evening gown sewing pattern for 11.5 in fashion dolls such as Barbie®: three one-shoulder dresses in stretch fabric, a short cocktail dress, a long gown that is fitted to the hip and flares to the floor, and the same gown with a train. The pieces come in two versions, for Regular and for Curvy dolls. The only closure is at the shoulder, a ribbon tied in a bow or a small snap, so there is no back opening to sew. Dolls, fabrics and ribbons in the photos are not included.

Three dresses from one doll evening gown sewing pattern
- Cocktail dress: the close-fitting one-shoulder body on its own, hemmed above the knee; in the photos in navy.
- Long evening gown: the same body with a flared skirt joined at the hip, so the gown hugs the hips and opens out towards the floor; in the photos in burgundy.
- Gown with a train: the flared skirt at the front and a longer train piece at the back; in the photos in dark green.
All three start with the same two body pieces, cut on the fold. The top edge is folded a few millimetres and stitched, the side seams are sewn with one side left open at the top for the arm, and the hem is turned up and stitched. For the two long versions the skirt pieces are joined to the body at the hip before the side seams are closed. Seam allowance of about 3-4 mm is included, and the stretch of the fabric does the fitting. A gold ribbon bow at the shoulder, as in the photos, is the finishing touch.
Fits Regular and Curvy dolls
This doll evening gown sewing pattern has separate pieces for the Regular and the Curvy 11.5 in body, in the PDF and in the SVG; choose the sheet that matches your doll. Tall and Petite are not listed for this pattern; the fabric stretches, so a quick test fit in a cheap knit will tell. Skill level, fabric and supplies
- Skill level: beginner. Short straight seams and a folded edge; a sewing machine helps but is not required.
- Fabric: stretchy, such as spandex or stretch cotton. Avoid thin, see-through knits, they are harder to sew and the dress is close-fitting.
- You need: the printed pattern, fabric, thread, scissors and a needle, a narrow ribbon for the shoulder bow, and small snaps or hook-and-loop tape if you prefer a fixed shoulder.
- Seam allowance, about 3-4 mm, is included: cut on the red cut line, sew on the dashed seam line, and trim the allowance after each seam to keep the seams flat.
Printing
Print the doll evening gown sewing pattern at 100% (Actual Size), not Fit to Page, on A4 or US Letter paper, and check the 1 cm and 1 inch marks on the sheet before you cut. No printer? Open the PDF, zoom until the 1 cm line on screen measures exactly 1 cm, and trace the pieces through thin paper; a print shop can also print it at 100%. The SVG files hold the same pieces at real size for cutting machines and vector programs.
